AVI - which video codec?

I have an.avi file which plays under XP sp2 using Media Player Classic.

Sound but no video plays on Vista.

How do I find out which codecs are installed on a computer? How do I know which codec is needed by which format? How do I install extra codecs?

Just get XviD. It's pretty much the best, and it will probably be all you need.
