AZ Alkmaar announce Niklas Moisander as their new captain – Dutch Eredivisie news
Reports from Alkmaar have confirmed that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar were left with a decision to make.
The 25-year-old has been a part of the Alkmaar outfit since his arrival at AFAS Stadion in the summer of 2008. Since then, the defender has represented his side so far in well over 50 games while also netting two goals.
The Finnish International expressed happiness after hearing the club’s decision and confidence in him to lead his side on the field in the upcoming season. The defender revealed that the feeling of becoming the captain of the Alkmaar outfit is very special.
“I was the second captain last season, but this is something very beautiful. It is an honour to be the captain of AZ Alkmaar”, Moisander was quoted as saying to the Dutch media.
In the season ended, the 25-year-old was the vice-captain of the team with Schaars leading the troops on the pitch. After the departure of the midfielder, the defender was a logical choice to wear the armband in the upcoming season. The position of the vice-captain,
though, remains to be filled.
Gertjan Verbeek, the AZ manager, has reportedly been busy bringing reinforcements for the upcoming season, as the Alkmaar outfit wish to emerge as a force to be reckoned with in the upcoming seasons.
Furthermore, the departure of Schaars and Kolbeinn Sigthorsson also forced the club to look for new faces in the transfer market.
AZ finished fourth in the season ended, earning automatic qualification to UEFA Europa League for the 2011/12 season. Should they manage to sign a few good player, their chances to win silverware by the end of the 2011/12 season would certainly increase.
