Reports from AFAS Stadion confirm that AZ Alkmaar have successfully acquired the services of Steven Berghuis from FC Twente Enschede on an undisclosed transfer fee. The young midfielder had an ongoing contract at De Grolsch
Veste until the summer of 2014, but opted to move to the Alkmaar outfit in search of regular first-team football.
The 20-year-old, who started his professional career at the Tukkers in the 2011/12 season, managed to make eight appearances at De Grolsch Veste before the club management decided to loan out the youngster to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VVV-Venlo-c40915 in
the second-half of the 2011/12 campaign.
The talented midfielder made 16 Eredivisie appearances for the Venlose Trots, before returning to De Grolsh Veste at the end of his six-month loan spell.
His impressive showings were enough to convince the AZ head coach, Gertjan Verbeek, to lure the youngster to AFAS Stadion before the 2012/13 season kicks-off. Despite having an ongoing contract with the Enschede giants, the
promising midfielder did not hesitate to join the Alkmaar outfit.

The AZ technical director, Earnest Stewart, has expressed his delight following the successful signing of the highly-talented youngster, and has insisted that he can become Brett Holman’s successor.
“Steven has very good technique. He has been in our plans for quite some time, and we have offered him a long contract to show our confidence in his abilities. He will surely fit in perfectly in our plans. Steven will certainly
prove to be an asset for us in the coming years”, Stewart was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
Berghuis has reportedly signed a contract at AFAS Stadion that runs until the summer of 2017.
