Heracles Almelo ended http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar’s KNVB beker Cup run with an impressive 4-2 win in the semi-final at AFAS Stadion on Thursday, March 22.
Adam Maher, the 18-year-old who started his professional career at AFAS Stadion in the 2010/11 campaign, has admitted that his side failed to capitalise on the goalscoring opportunities.
“Everyone was disappointed. When we took the lead 2-1, we had many chaces to make it 3-1 and then 4-1. We had the opportunity to put the match to bed, but we failed. Everyone was devastated with the loss.
“Yet, we must not remain disappointed for long and shift our focus, as we are still competing at two fronts, Eredivisie and Europa League”, Maher was quoted as saying to Voetbal International.
The Heraclieden started the match brightly and it took them only seven minutes to take the lead. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 Ramos da Silva headed Willie Overtoom’s cross from the left perfectly into the back of the net.
However, AZ took control after conceding an early goal and staged an impressive show. In the 20th minute, the home side restored parity through Adam Maher.
Two minutes later, the home side were in front. Johann Berg Gudmundsson picked up the ball and sprinted into the area before firing a powerful shot past the Heraclieden goalkeeper, Dennis Telgenkamp.
After going 2-1 up, the home side sat deep inside their own half and much of the action took place in the midfield.

The Heraclieden, however, dominated proceedings in the extra-time and scored two goals in the second period to seal a Dutch cup final berth for the first time in the club’s history. Thomas Bruns gave the Heraclieden a lead while Ninos Gouriye sealed a 4-2
win.
