AZ Alkmaar completed their match against SBV Excelsior at Stadion Woudestein, which was abandoned at half-time due to heavy fog earlier this season, on Wednesday, December 7. The match ended in a goalless stalemate, as both sides struggled to find the back of the net.
The Alkmaar outfit's versatile midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brett-Holman-c8047, expressed disappointment following his side’s goalless draw and revealed that his side lacked a bit of luck against the struggling Eredivisie outfit.
“Everyone says we are tired but I don't think that. We were sharp (against Excelsior) but we lacked a bit of luck”, Holman said while talking to the media.
The outfit from Alkmaar are currently sitting at the summit of the league table, four points ahead of the second placed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven.
AZ will lock horns against De Graafschap at AFAS Stadion on Saturday, December 10, and Holman has urged his side to perform at their best and secure all three points convincingly.
“We have a good game against De Graafschap. It is nice to play a home game, against anyone. We need to show everyone who is boss, especially when playing at home. We didn't do anything wrong against Excelsior so I have every confidence”, Holman added.
The 27-year-old midfielder is hoping that his side return to winning ways against the Super Farmers at home after failing to secure maximum points in their last two league encounters.
The Australian ace arrived at AFAS Stadion in the summer of 2008 after making 59 appearances for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/NEC-c40018 Nijmegen. Since his arrival at the Alkmaar outfit, the 27-year-old has become one of the most consistent performers in the AZ squad.
Holman has thus far played 78 matches for the Alkmaar outfit, netting 13 goals while providing a bagful of assists. The versatile midfielder has played at different positions since his arrival at AFAS Stadion.
He played the 2008/09 season in a central midfielder role, while the 2009/10 campaign saw him man the right midfield spot.
In the 2010/11 season, the Australian International was used in a more attacking position, as he mostly played on the right flank under the leadership of Gertjan Verbeek. This season, though, he has taken the opposite flank.
Holman would be hoping that he plays an integral part in guiding his side towards domestic glory.
