AZ Alkmaar’s Brett Holman open to a new adventure – Dutch Eredivisie news
AZ Alkmaar’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brett-Holman-c8047 has revealed that he is open to move away from AFAS Stadion in the upcoming winter transfer market if the right offer comes in.
The 27-year-old has an ongoing contract that is due to expire by the end of the 2011/12 campaign. According to reports, the AZ management have thus far refused to offer the Australian International an improved contract, which has tempted the midfield
ace to make his dream move to one of the elite European leagues in the January transfer window.
The attacking midfielder, who can also play as a winger, arrived at AFAS Stadion in the summer of 2008. Since then, he has provided impressive performances, even becoming a key player in the AZ squad. The versatile attacker has thus far netted 12 goals
and provided a bagful of assists in 75 appearances for the Alkmaar outfit.
However, the recent reports suggest that the 27-year-old’s time in the Dutch top tier is nearing its end. The attacking midfielder seems destined to be pursuing his career elsewhere after the winter break.
Talking to the Dutch media, Holman said:
“Of course I have ambitions. If there is a good club from a big league who are interested in me, then I am open to a new adventure. I have a Dutch wife and child and we are fine here. I know I must respect AZ's wishes, but if the proposal is good,
I must seriously think about it”.
Gertjan Verbeek, the AZ head coach, has revealed that the club would love to prolong Holman’s stay at AFAS Stadion.
“Let me be clear that Holman is someone we would really like to keep at AZ, but the limits of what we can afford are currently unclear. We are dealing with a new salary structure. If Brett would be satisfied with less, we are thrilled”, Verbeek was
quoted as saying to the media.
Holman picked up a groin injury in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571’s 2-2 stalemate against Ajax Amsterdam on October 15, and the MRI scan confirmed that the 27-year-old would be out of action for several weeks.
