AZ Alkmaar’s Gertjan Verbeek hoping to sign at least three players – Dutch Eredivisie news
Gertjan Verbeek, AZ Alkmaar manager, is aiming to bring at least three new players before the 2011/12 campaign commences. With departures of Kolbeinn Sigthorsson to Ajax Amsterdam and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sporting-89-c40576 Lisbon in the ongoing summer transfer market,
the club are being forced to scour the market for alternatives.
The Dutch trainer was appointed as the head coach of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 in the summer of 2010 and in his debut season at AFAS Stadion, the 48-year-old steered his side to a respectable fourth place finish in the league table.
After an impressive season, it was expected that some of the AZ’s players would be leaving their side for pasture greener in the ongoing summer transfer market. With Sigthorsson and Schaars leaving the outfit from Alkmaar to face new challenges, Verbeek
has the task to find perfect replacements for the duo before the new season commences.
Although the Eredivisie outfit have acquired the services of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/VVV-Venlo-c40915 to fill in the shoes of the Icelandic International, the 48-year-old is still looking to enhance his options in the attacking third by signing another striker as well
as bringing a right-back and a winger.
“We currently have 18 league-quality players. The rest are still short. Behind the scenes, we are working hard to get three more boys. This is about a right-back, a right winger and a striker”, Verbeek was quoted as saying to the media.
After finishing fourth in the league table, the outfit from Alkmaar earned automatic qualification to play in UEFA Europa League in the upcoming season. The tactician knows the importance of his players’ fitness and expressed satisfaction with the current
levels of fitness amongst the squad.
“A large number of boys are progressing reasonably well. Many players are fit”, the Dutch trainer concluded.
Acquiring three new players in the ongoing market is a task easier said than done, however, the club must do their utmost if they are to better their accomplishments from last season.
