AZ Alkmaar’s Kolbeinn Sigthorsson
attracts English Premier League interest – Eredivisie news update
AZ Alkmaar prolific striker, Kolbeinn Sigthorsson, performances have attracted interest from English Premier League sides. Reports suggest that Sunderland, Everton, Bolton Wanderers, and Newcastle United are taking keen interest in signing the prolific striker
at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old striker is the product of AZ’s youth academy and has been seen as one of the revelations of the Eredivisie this season. He has scored 11 goals in 27 appearances so far. However, his performance against VVV-Venlo notified him at top English
clubs. He found the back of the net on five occasions in their 6-1 win over VVV earlier this season.
The Icelandic international could be on his way out of Eredivisie at the end of the season, as four English clubs are keenly monitoring the progress of the prolific forward and keen to add the 21-year-old striker to their squad in the summer transfer market.
The Newcastle outfit were the first to show interest in the Icelandic prolific striker. However, it looks like they have to face stiff competition from their fellow, the English outfits, to sign the striker at the end of the season.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 are currently placed fourth in the league table, acquiring 52 points from 29 matches. They are trailing nine points from a UEFA Champions League berth. With five matches left to play in the season, Europe’s most prestigious club competition berth looks
farfetched, but they will be hoping to cement their fourth place to play in the Europa League next season. The Alkmaar outfit has played superbly and Sigthorsson has played a key role in their achievements so far this season.
Sigthorsson current contract with the Eredivisie outfit runs until the summer of 2012. Reports suggest that an offer in the region of 5 Million Euros could be needed to lure the striker away from his current club.
The Alkmaar outfit would be looking to hold on to their prized asset for the next season as well. However, the team management have to offer an improved contract extension to the striker if they have any ambition to hold on to the Icelandic international.
Should AZ offer a better contract to the 21-year-old striker, the Alkmaar outfit will also improve their chances of keeping the player for the next couple of seasons. It will also enhance their opportunities to cash in on their prolific striker more, as an
extended contract will certainly raise the striker’s current price in the market.
