The Amsterdammers boss Frank de Boer is weighing up a summer move for the 27-year-old left-back in order to increase his options and avoid putting too much pressure on young Nicolai Boilesen.
Reports from Amsterdam Arena indicate that Ajax Amsterdam are taking keen interest in signing AZ Alkmaar defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Simon-Poulsen-c33562, this summer.
The 27-year-old has an expiring contract at AFAS Stadion that runs until the summer of 2012, and the Amsterdam giants are keen to acquire his services on a free transfer.
The Danish stopper arrived in Alkmaar in the summer of 2008 after making 63 appearances for Midtjylland. The highly-talented left-back has thus far represented the Alkmaar outfit in 85 matches and has netted five goals as well.
Although the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 management is reportedly looking to renew the 27-year-old’s contract, it seems unlikely that the left-back will agree to prolong his stay at AFAS Stadion.
The Amsterdammers head coach, Frank de Boer, has been in search of a new left-back in order to avoid putting too much pressure on the 20-year-old, Nicolai Boilesen, and see the Danish stopper as a perfect addition to his squad.
“Daley Blind is now doing very well on the left and Dico Koppers has also played there but Nicolai Boilesen is probably not in contention to play 34 matches next season. It seems logical that we think of Simon”, De Boer was quoted as saying to the Eredivisie
official website.
Poulsen was all praise for the reigning Eredivisie champions and was unable to hide his happiness after hearing about the Amsterdammers’ interest. However, the left-back has revealed that he has yet to hear from the club about a potential move to Amsterdam
Arena this summer.
“It feels like a great recognition that a club like Ajax have expressed interest in me. Ajax is a big club with a rich history. But I have not heard anything concrete from the club itself”, Poulsen said while talking to journalists.
If rumours are to be believed, a number of English Premier League clubs are also interested in acquiring Poulsen’s signature before the start of the 2012/13 season.
