AZ storms last night??

I have been hearing that there we tornado's with last nights storm, is that true?? and what was up with that greenish blue lightning??

AZ. has no Tornado,s just dust dust devils, & that greenish blue lightning happens all the time it,s called streak lightning , it, pretty hu?.

No there wasn't any tornadoes. We don't get them in the Phoenix area because we don't have the contrast between the really hot air and cold moist air. The air is just hot. It was a great storm as far as the light show.

I understand that Sky Harbor was registering steady 75 mph winds (that's hurricane force!) and there were gusts of 100 mph by radar.  I work at Maricopa Medical Center at 26th St. & Roosevelt, and there were uprooted trees, torn tarps, destroyed fences, and water damage to the hospital itself.

I think it's possible we might have had some isolated micoburst activity, basically mini tornadoes with rain. Weak tornadoes are rare in Arizona, but they do occur about 4 times a year.  Deep green or aqua colored clouds are a pretty good indicator that the storm contains a lot of moisture and will probably cause some very high winds - perhaps even tornadoes.

It was crazy!I was driving on a freeway around 11:30pm and i was scared for my life.Had to pull over and wait for hail and wind to calm down.I have never seen anything like this before!I heard the wind was about 80 miles/hour.Crazy!

I just heard it was a major thunderstorm.  Tore down the new football practice dome... with hurricane-force winds.

"I thought I was in the middle of a tornado," said Raul Chavez, 34, who lives near Second Street and Hardy. "Trees fell and there was crashing everywhere."

The storm, which dumped rain and some hail in Tempe, shut down Sky Harbor International Airport for about an hour during the height of the storm. Flight delays continued early Friday as crews worked to remove debris blown onto the runways.
