http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar starlet, Adam Maher, has made it clear that he would love to join Ajax Amsterdam this summer, despite being turned down by the Amsterdam giants in his youth days.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who started his professional career at AFAS Stadion in the 2010/11 season after spending six years at AZ’s youth academy, had a terrific 2011/12 campaign.
Netting five goals while amassing six assists in 34 Eredivisie games, the youngster’s presence at the centre of the pitch remained the driving force for the Alkmaar outfit.
His consistent showings linked him with several European clubs including the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and PSV Eindhoven. However, the promising midfield ace has expressed his desire of joining the Amsterdam giants.
“Ajax turned me down on three occasions at their special talent-days before I joined the AZ academy some seven years ago. It's not easy to judge someone on a day like that. Plus you can really develop in one year. That's why Ajax
are still an option for me if they ever show concrete interest in me”, Maher was quoted as saying to Nusport.nl.
The talented midfielder, who has thus far donned the jersey of the Alkmaar outfit in 35 league matches, went on to insist that he thinks highly of both PSV and Ajax. However, he admitted that a move to Amsterdam Arena will better
suit him, as he has been the Amsterdammers fan as a kid.
“I don't have a preference between Ajax and PSV. PSV were the first club to show genuine interest. I was an Ajax fan as a kid, though, and I still think it is a nice club. Ajax will always be Ajax”, Maher concluded.
The 19-year-old has an ongoing contract at AFAS Stadion that runs until the end of the 2014/15 season. Although, the Alkmaar outfit has thus far showed reluctance in parting ways with their star performer, an offer in the region
of eight million Euros could persuade the club management to sell their prized asset this summer.
