I turned on my laptop the other day and I couldn't see anything. It was just black, but I heard the computer running. I thought it was messed up, but then I looked REALLY close and just BARELY saw something on the screen. I saw the log-in page and typed my password and got into my account (this is an Xp laptop). But still everything is basically black. You really really really have to strain your eyes to be able to see the slightest thing at all. Yet you can still do stuff. I opened the start menu and everything works just fine. It's just the brightness that's the problem. I tried adjusting the brightness with the Fn+F9 (which is supposed to brighten the screen) but nothing happens. WHAT IS WRONG??? This is a very valuable laptop and I need to know how to fix it. Any ideas at all? Thanks!

  1. you could check the brightness and put it to the max so u could see

  2. The backlight is off.  This may be fixable.  Try pressing quite hard on the area around the base of your screen, not actually on the screen itself, and try the full width.  If you find a place where you can get the light back on as long as you are pressing down, you simply have a bad connection.  You could get this fixed pretty cheap, around £20, but if the light has completely failed, you'd pay less for a new laptop than to have it fixed.

  3. Either the backlight or the inverter has failed.

Probably not worth fixing (your laptop is not that valuable if it's out of warranty).

  4. hi the back light has failed, expensive repair, you can always use an external monitor, but if the laptop is old, financially its the time to replace

  5. i had that to i just reset my laptop it back to normal but its dark again looks like i have to reset untill i find somthing
