Can one of you knowledgeable followers of AFL please give me an answer to why the umpires now yell 'play on' after a bounce down or boundary throw in?

One does not have to be Einstein to work out that it is not a mark if a player takes possession of the ball after the bounce or throw in. The ump yells play on every occasion. I fail to see the need to do so.

It's not as though it is the nippers & the ump also assists with a bit of coaching as well.

Now that umps are wired up for sound it does become a bit annoying (to me anyway) with this continual calling of 'play on'. Sureley the players don't need to be told!

  1. The ump's do this to show that there was no infringement in the rucking contest and play continues.

  2. It's obvious that all these "know all" AFL fans who bombard us with their thoughts in here have no idea in regard to your question.

I also have no idea as to why the umpires carry on the way they do now. They did not do so a couple of years back.

  3. some players aren't very bright - I think all the drugs affect their thinking.

  4. I think the umpires just like to hear the sound of their own voices when they sit around watching the replays!

  5. lol

I guess to aoid confusion...lol but u would think that th players who play th game for a job...would know when to play on. Its fair enuff to say play on when its touched or pple think its a mark...but still. i agree with u, th players should know what to do.

  6. because they are stupid gits who have disgraced this game with the idiotic dicissions which have cost may clubs games. and we all know that eddie pays the umps to fav collingwood and we also know that there is an organisation going on rigging this game favouring collingwood, carlton and west coast.
