Former Pakistan captain, Aamer Sohail, has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to be innovative in the domestic cricket in order to inject new life in it.
Pakistan’s domestic cricket has been criticized by a number of former cricketers as they believe that it is one of the major reasons behind the decline of the country’s performance at the highest stage of the game.

At the present moment, Quaid e Azam Trophy is the premier first-class tournament in Pakistan, in which regional and departmental teams take part. Since the last 12 years, PCB has experimented with the structure of national cricket but to no avail and now
the situation is such that people think that the standard of domestic cricket in 1990s was better in the country as compared to now.

structure was in great shape in the past and it was an example for the rest of the cricketing world.
The former captain believes that it is about time that PCB comes up with something new at the domestic level because the existing system is not taking Pakistan cricket forward.
"Pakistan played a lead role in turning the World Cup into a commercial powerhouse and also introduced the concept of neutral umpires. Our domestic cricket format was once studied and admired by other countries as well. Thrills and skills will be the selling
points of such an event," Sohail said while talking to Daily Times.
PCB is already planning to organize a T20 league and the former and present cricketers think that the proposed league will enhance the quality of domestic cricket in the country. It remains to be seen that PCB organizes that tournament in Pakistan or outside
the country because of the security issues.
