Aamir Atlas Khan flogs Campbell Grayson in 1st round – London Open 2011
Top seeded Pakistani Aamir Atlas Khan whipped unseeded Kiwi Campbell Grayson in the first round of the Coronation London Open 2011.
Top seeded Pakistani outwitted the Kiwi during the PSA World Tour Challenger 15 which is in its fourth year and the two had faced off against each other at the Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club in London, Great Britain. After a few minutes,
the top seeded Pakistani was able to survive a mid match lapse against the Kiwi with a score of 11-7, 11-4, 9-11, 12-10.
Grayson initiated the primary round of the match as he had won the pitch and he got off to a great start as he held his service game for the initial half of the match. However, he was unable to hold his serve in the middle and
plummeted. On the contrary, the top seeded player took advantage of the breakpoint and smashed a few drive as well as variation shots to overtake his opponent.
Once the top seeded Pakistani had taken the lead, he did not let the ball drop and constantly bagged his service points to eventually clog the opening round. In doing so; he took the competitive edge over his adversary. He further
repeated the feat in the second round and this time he restricted his opponent to only four points in the entire set.
A twist of fate in the third round led Khan to lose focus and this time he nosedived not just in his serve but also in his return. Although, he then quickly recovered and even managed to match a blow for a blow, he was still unable
to reach the finish line. AT the end, the Kiwi had outperformed the top seed and clogged his first game.
The cat and mouse chase was initiated in the fourth and the final set. The players matched an eye for an eye, with neither of the players wanting the other to take the lead. It was a fierce battle between the two, the score kept
tied for most of the game and the last time the score tied was at ten points each but the top seed had bagged two consecutive points to seal his victory of the set and the match.
Next up for the top seed was unseeded Englishman Chris Simpson in the quarterfinal of the event.
