http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shahid-Afridi-c2482 to retire from international cricket – Cricket News Update
Pakistan’s former fast bowler and bowling coach, Aaqib Javed, has criticised http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012 and has asked the ex-captain to call it a day from international
sport.
The Green Shirts are considered to be one of the world’s finest T20 teams, having qualified for all the four semi-finals of the World T20s. They entered the tournament as one of the favourites, having beaten http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the three-match
series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE).
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 last night. The hosts won the all-important match by 16 runs to go into the final.
Afridi was expected to be Pakistan’s trump card in the tournament but the explosive all-rounder failed to make an impression with either ball or bat, scoring just 30 runs in 6 matches and grabbing merely four wickets, much to the disappointment
of millions of fans back home.
Aaqib, who was http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755’s bowling coach till early 2012, feels that Boom Boom must retire from international cricket now and has gone past his best at the game’s ultimate stage.
"I think when Pakistan lost in the 2011 World Cup semi-finals, Afridi should have taken a decision on his retirement then. It appears as if we keep on selecting him hoping he will perform like he did some years ago but it is not happening.
Afridi and some other players need to take a decision on their retirement," said the former fast bowler.
The former cricketer from Sheikhupura is of the opinion that the selectors should get rid of some of the senior players who have not been performing consistently for the country, calling for the inclusion of some young players who are
doing well at the domestic level.
He added, "Limited overs cricket is for young blood and fresh legs. Unfortunately we carried a lot of players in our team whose role were uncertain in the team.”
Afridi picked up just one wicket in the semi-final and was dismissed for a Golden Duck.
