http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wahab-Riaz-c95839’s progress in international cricket – Cricket News Update
Aaqib Javed, the former Pakistani fast bowler, is not happy with the growth of Wahab Riaz in international cricket and feels that the left-arm pacer has so far failed to live up to his potential.
Riaz made his Test debut during the controversial tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 in 2010 and grabbed a five-wicket haul in his very first match at the Kennington Oval, London. The cricketer from Lahore made a name for himself by picking up five crucial scalps in the semi-final
of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 at Mohali.
However, the 27-year-old cricketer failed to perform consistently at the highest stage of the game, losing his place in the national team as a result. Wahab made a comeback in international cricket during the recently-concluded tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 but failed
to make an impression.
While speaking exclusively to Pakpassion, the ex-bowling of the Green Shirts, Aaqib, revealed that he expected a lot more from the talented fast bowler but he has not justified his talent so far.
In the former cricketer’s point of view, Riaz fails to concentrate hard on each and every delivery, which is the reason why he bowls many poor balls, which can be easily dispatched to the boundary by good batsmen.
“I’ve been disappointed with how Wahab’s international career has developed. I had high hopes for Wahab and I still do, but he’s not achieved what I expected he would,” said the former cricketer from Sheikhupura. “The problem with Wahab is that he has poor
levels of concentration and he cannot cope with the pressure of top-level cricket. When you are playing international cricket, you have to concentrate on every delivery.”
Aaqib thinks that Wahab is an extremely talented cricketer, who has the potential to make it big at the ultimate level of the sport; however, it will be possible only if he becomes mentally stronger.
“Wahab has everything that a fast bowler needs. He has pace, he has a strong body, he has cricketing skills but he needs to work on the mental aspects of cricket, self control and emotional control,” the ex-bowling coach added.
