Aaron Baddeley bags Northern Trust Open title: Golf news
Aaron Baddeley marvelled a victory at the Riviera Country Club by posting a grand aggregate of 12-under-par in the four-day session of the Northern Trust Open.
The Aussie was nowhere near the lead until Sunday when he fired the fourth round in scores of 60. He teed off from the front and hammered a 6-foot long birdie putt on the opening hole. The early accomplishment provided a push to his zeal and he walked towards
the remaining holes with utmost confidence. On the seventh hole, he ironed the second shot all the way to the centre of the green and once again successfully rolled a birdie in.
The 29-year-old picked up another point at the start of the front nine and surged up the leaderboard with a gross aggregate of 13-under. However, on the following hole, he encountered a double-bogey which swiped away his extra lead and left him tied with
Vijay Singh at 11-under.
The Aussie fired another birdie at the 13th hole, which helped him break free from the tie and walk to the clubhouse as the winner.
He was followed by Vijay Singh who birdied the first hole of the front for the fourth time and reeled two more in the following holes. He dropped a shot at the par-4 7th and capped the front half at two-under. On his journey to the back, he encountered
two more bogeys against two birdies and hence wrapped the tournament as a runner-up with an aggregate of 10-under.
The winner three strokes below was Kevin Na. The American kicked off with a terrible start when he dropped three shots on the second, fourth and eighth holes. He continued ruining his scorecard in the second half when he bogeyed the opening hole of the back
but crawled back into par after earning two points at the acceding holes.
Jimmy Walker, Robert Allenby and Ryan Moore finished tied at the third spot by compiling a scorecard of 8-under, whereas the first-round leader, Fred Couples finished seventh.
The 51-year-old American birdied the three opening holes of the front, but failed to keep the pace alive and encountered four bogeys and a double-bogey later in the day.
