Aaron Baddeley earns Shot of the Day accolade in the first round of Travelers Championship
Aaron Baddeley earned the Shot of the Day accolade in the first round of the Travelers Championship by hitting an approach shot of 234 yards towards par-5, 13th for an eagle. The Professional Golf Association (PGA) Tour
event is taking place at the par-71 Tournament Player Club (TPC) River Highland, located in Cromwell.
The Aussie had his name registered for the huge honour after he aced the hole by making an almost impossible approach shot towards the green, that had a ridge in between. The 30-year-old veteran drew the second shot while standing
on the right side of the fairway and hit the green in regulation. The ball traveled the entire fairway and stopped three feet away from the cup; an eagle from here was inevitable.
After this shot, Baddeley claimed the 16th spot with a score of 3-under-par. The player has not completed his first round yet, owing to the suspension of play due to poor weather conditions. Despite the heavy downpour,
the player managed to earn two birdies in the start of the day and currently, he has four more holes to go.
When asked to comment on the fabulous shot, the Aussie said that it was completely unexpected. He explained that he and his caddie stood on the far right side of the fairway, discussing the choice of the club. Knowing the distance
and that the direction of the wind was in favour of the shot, the player decided to hit a short iron onto the green. Lucky for him, the ball was carried by the wind to the spot, where they expected it to fall.
In addition to the eagle, Baddeley relished a success rate of 73 percent in driving distance, which meant that he only missed five fairways. The player also hit 14 greens in regulation, which portrayed the amount of accuracy he possessed
in his short game.
Baddeley still has four holes to go. If he keeps a tight grip on his putter and driver, then he is certain to make the cut into the weekend.
