Aaron Baddeley finds place in the top-15 at the Masters
Aaron Baddeley is happy about scoring a 1-under 71 in the first round of the Masters Tournament on Thursday, April 5, 2012.
The 31-year-old American-Australian professional player displayed an amazing performance at the Augusta National Golf Club, in Augusta, Georgia.
He started the round impressively and amazed the spectators by making a birdie on the second hole. Then he remained at par on most of the holes, but carded a bogey on the sixth hole.
His performance on the back nine of Augusta was tremendous. He shot another two birdies on the 13th and 17th hole and ended the first round of the Masters in an impressive style.
However, Baddeley was not so happy with his performance. He said that there were many opportunities on the front nine holes, but he was unable to avail them.
“They put some tough pins out there today,” Baddeley said. “That front side there really wasn't many birdie opportunities at all. You want to shoot as low as you can, but 71 is a good start. I felt like I played well, I felt like I played better and better
as the day went on, which I was pleased about”.
Lee Westwood is currently on top of the leaderboard. He was tremendous at Augusta and competed well for the top most position.
The 38-year-old English professional golfer shot seven impressive birdies and two devastating bogeys. He scored a 5-under 67 and maintains a one-stroke lead over the South African Louis Oosthuizen, who scored a 4-under 68.
Baddeley is on the 39th position in the Official World Golf Rankings and also among the hottest title contenders. His massive scoring, putting and driving accuracy are one of the best at the Masters.
The 3-time PGA Tour winner has played eight tournaments in the current year so far. He recorded his best finish of the 4th leaderboard position, at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
He also displayed his best scores there, as 12-under 274 is the highest from him in the current year. He has ample opportunities to be among the top positions at the Masters.
The competition is tough and has reached new highs. All the players are tuning up for the second round that is set to be played on Friday April 6.
