Aaron Brooks wants to stay at Phoenix Suns – NBA Update
While most free agents in the NBA are going around the league, looking to get tied with the team that offers them the most money, Aaron Brooks has stated that he wants to stay where he is.
The point guard, who stands at 6 feet only, moved to the Phoenix Suns in the middle of last season but has taken to the city like fish to water. So much so, that even though his contract is expired and there are plenty of teams
who willing to pay top dollar for an exciting young point guard, Brooks has stated his desire to remain with his current team,
“All signs point to me going back to Phoenix,” Brooks said. “I had a good time. I like the organization and it’s a great city. I would love to continue playing in Phoenix. I would love stay with this team.”
The player started his career at the Houston Rockets and only moved to the Suns during the last season. His point’s average dropped from 11.6 with the Houston Rockets to 9.6 when he came to the Suns, but the player says he enjoys
it here and is still in his setting in period. Overall, Brooks averaged 10.7 points and 3.9 assists per game in the last season.
He said he would take the offseason and next season as an opportunity to get to know his teammates better, whom he praised for their support since arriving in Phoenix,
“This summer, I’m going to get more comfortable with the guys. I want to get to know everyone a little bit better and then hopefully we have a better season than we did last year.” He continued, “All of the guys there are cool,
but it was awkward for me because I’ve never been in that position ... I’ve never switched teams in the middle of the season, but they did a good job of making me feel comfortable”
One of those teammates is Steve Nash – poetry in motion. The legendary point guard has been one of the best basketball players of the last decade and rivals Jason Kidd as the best at the point guard position. Brooks serves as Nash’s
understudy and will no doubt be thrilled to be learning his from one of the greatest point guards to ever play basketball.
Many believe that Brooks was acquired with an eye on Steve’s advancing years. Aaron is expected to take over as starting point guard at the franchise once Steve Nash finally retires. He could even get the role as soon as next season
if Nash is traded somewhere else, which wouldn’t come as a surprise as many teams are looking at Steve Nash, including the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat.
