Aaron Cockerill becomes Golfer of the year 2010
The annual meeting of Golf Manitoba held on Monday night decided to hand the Manitoba Golfer of the Year honours to Aaron Cockerill.
The honour thus awarded to the eighteen year old is due to the impressive resume he has been able to line up in the recent years especially in the current year 2010. The best part of this golfer’s resume is that he has been the most consistent player of
the year which drew such a decision held at Breezy Bend Country Club last night.
The golfer from Stony Mountain decided to seriously follow golf some three years back and has been on the top ever since. The eighteen year old has collected wins in the Manitoba Junior and the Western Future Links Championship in Alberta. Whereas the young
golfer finished 10th at the Canadian Junior held in Richmond, B.C.
Other than the wins and top finishes, the eighteen year old is also ranked in the top ten list of national junior order of merit.
According to Aaron Cockerill, this had been a really unexpected event and he hadn’t anticipated it at all. He marks the 2010 as the most consistent and saccharine year ever and places the Golfer of the Year honour as icing on the cake.
Cockerill's record this season has been amazing. He is one of the top golfers, who have been selected to play for the Texas A&M Commerce, as a freshman. The event will be held in Dallas where Cockerill has continued showing progress with his results.
According to Cockerill, his top goal this year was to become a junior but his year has turned out to be much more than being just a junior. Other than the Honours, Cockerill said that he also performed rather unexpectedly well at the Canadian Junior.
More from the triumphs, Cockerill added The Future Links to his list and said that his win at that tournament was just because he had been playing extremely well in just about everything.
Cockerill had achieved an under par at the final round and managed to finish at the top 15 of the college tournament. Cockerill is also a medalist at the Manitoba match play qualifying rounds as well as the Maple Leaf Junior Tour event winner.
The current Golfer of the Year honours attained by Cockerill was after moving past Garth Collings and Peter More. The eighteen year old has been nominated 16 times and has won the award 5 times. He is also a member of Manitoba Golf Hall of Fame and Museum.
