Aaron Cook hit hard as Boston Red Sox lose to Detroit Tigers 5-7 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox were beaten by the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Wednesday, August 1 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
For the Tigers, Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash. Fielder homered to deep centre in the fifth and Cabrera connected for a two run shot to improve his average to .323. Delmon Young also belted a home-run
in the eighth to take the game away from the Red Sox.
Cody Ross had an RBI single to right for the Red Sox in the first inning. Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Will Middlebrooks and Pedro Ciriaco drove in crucial runs to keep their side in the game but the Tigers were too hot to handle on Wednesday.
Red Sox starting pitcher Aaron Cook paid the ultimate price for his wavered pitching as he gave up nine hits and six runs to take his fifth loss of the year. Reliever Andrew Miller was hit for a home-run in his only inning pitched.
"The biggest problem was hanging a breaking ball to one of the best hitters in the game," Boston starter Aaron Cook said. "He had a long at bat and I tried to do something a little different."
"If I'm still down in the zone, they're hitting balls on the ground and I think the outcome of the game is totally different," He said.
The Red Sox, who annihilated the Tigers in first two games, will be disappointed with their effort in series finale. Manager Bobby Valentine was expecting his team to deliver another clinical win on Wednesday to earn a rare series sweep against Detroit.
"We keep winning series and we're going to be just fine," Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said.
Right now, Valentine and company are placed fourth on the American League East Divisions standings, just two games behind the second placed Baltimore Orioles. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox can do well over the next couple of weeks to grab
one of the wild card spots.
