Aaron Cook shines as Boston Red Sox improve to 41-36 – MLB Update
Boston Red Sox continued to impress the critics as they outclassed Seattle Mariners 5-0 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington in the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Rookie Aaron Cook had one of the best nights of his life on Friday, June 29 as he played a key role in lifting the Red Sox to another important victory. The starting pitcher showed just what he is capable of as he used his fastballs, curveballs and groundballs
to great effect.
"It means a lot to go out there and prove it, that I'm where I want to be and get back to be an effective pitcher and get back to giving our team a chance to win games and be efficient," Cook said.
Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia was very impressed with what he saw from Cook and he joked to say that it felt like catching for only five innings.
Will Middlebrooks, Cody Ross, Daniel Nava and Jarrod Saltalamacchia all homered as the Red Sox broke the deadlock to take an impassable 5-0 lead in the sixth inning. Mariners, on the other hand, had their chances but they were unable to come up with the
answers.
"It's a step back today offensively and that's hard as h**l to do the way we've been swinging the bats here at home," Marlins’ Manager Eric Wedge said.
"Everything is going well. I'm staying with the same approach I've had all season, not trying to change it and things are working," Saltalamacchia said in a post game interview.
In the 12th complete game of his career, Aaron created all sorts of problems for Mariners’ batters helping the Red Sox establish complete control over the contest. While the starter is still inexperienced at the highest possible level, he has
already shown his incredible ability to perform under pressure.
Cook struck-out two and walked none on 81 pitches for third shut-out of his career, presenting his strong case in front of Boston’s manager Bobby Valentine. It should not be a surprise to anyone if Cook cements his place on the big league roster by the end
of this season.
