Aaron Cook shines as Colorado Rockies defeat Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 – MLB Update
Aaron Cook exhibited his classic sinkerball impetus and tossed seven grudging innings as the Colorado Rockies beat Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 27.
"It was definitely a big game for us," Cook said. "We didn't want to go out of here losing three games, so I took a lot upon myself to make sure I got ahead of guys, first and foremost, and worked from there."
Cook allowed six no-score hits, walked two and struck-out two batters to take his second straight win of the season. He tossed 58 strikes of 97 pitches to show a sign of his comeback in the Majors.
"I'm not going to speculate after seven starts, but what we've had are two very consistent outings. He was very consistent for six innings against Arizona in an 8-4 win and he was very consistent again tonight,” Rockies’ manager Jim Tracy said
Rex Brothers held his seventh game with a one-hitter eighth inning and Huston Street managed to save his 27th game, allowing one run on one hit in the final inning.
Rockies’ short-stop Troy Tulowitzki made two of three runs in his five at-bats. He scored a game opening single in the fifth inning and then contributed again in the ninth inning for the third run of the game. First baseman Ty Wigginton doubled to left-field
to take his part with a single in the seventh inning.
Dodgers’ starter Hiroki Kuroda expressed great control throughout the game but he allowed a single run which cost him his 13th loss of 2011 MLB regular season. He also made six strike-outs over six innings but failed to save him from their fourth
consecutive loss. He was struggling to get his second win in this month as he has not won a single game since July 1, when he shut-out the Los Angeles Angels 5-0.
Blake Hawksworth and Mike MacDougal each scattered one run over two hits in their spells. Hawksworth worked a single inning and struck-out one batter while MacDougal tossed just over one inning. Closer Scott Elbert tossed five pitches to complete the ninth
inning.
Dodgers might have received a shut-out sweep but Rod Barajas launched a refuting 380-feet long one-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to save from humiliation. It was the Dodgers’ 57th loss of the season while the Rockies achieved their
49th win.
