Aaron Cruden shines for Hurricanes in brilliant win over Lions- Super Rugby News
The Hurricanes won their crucial match against the Lions by 38-27 on June 4, in Wellington. The Super Rugby match had great significance for the Hurricanes as they needed a win to stay in playoff contention. Aaron Cruden had an excellent day in Wellington
as he was on fire for the Hurricanes with 20 points in the important game.
The Hurricanes were down in the match 20-8 during the first half but they bounced back in the game quite nicely in the second part of the match. Aaron Cruden started off the game for Hurricanes in the early minutes and scored a stunning try just in the fifth
minute of the game. He added five more points to his team’s total before the interval.
On the other hand Elton Jantjies of the Lions was also impressive on the field. He kept the Hurricanes defenders busy in the first half and scored nine points for his side. However, the Lions, who were leading until the end of first half, could not add much
to their total in the second half. Taute, who scored the first try for the lions in the 24th minute, made the second of the match few minutes before the final whistle.
Ma’a Nonu also celebrated a brilliant try in the match and picked his side up in the second half.
Talking to the reporters after the match Hurricanes skipper, Andrew h**e, said, "We learned from what the Lions did to us in the first half. We just held onto the ball and built pressure. We put the ball down their half, they made a couple of mistakes in
the second half which helped us get a lead and we managed to hang on."
La Grange, the try scorer for Lions, also spoke on the occasion and said, "I think we knocked off a bit just after halftime and let mistakes creep into our game, like letting in soft tries. I don't think the rain (in the second half) made a difference but,
like I said, we let in three easy tries and that was the difference."
The Hurricane will take on the Chiefs in the next match of Super Rugby on June 11.
