  1. This is a good move by both the Wings and by Downey.  His limited role makes him replaceable if he wanted to sign a 1 way deal.  However, does this mean we won't have Mac back?

I like Aaron Downey, so I'm gald he is back.  However, I'm curious to see what will happen with Darren Mac.  I guess a lot of decisions will be made once we find an outlet for Andreas Lilja.  I hope Lilja is dealt so we can begin playing Quincey and Ericsson, who are far cheaper and far more promising.  This should open up some cap space for mac if he is needed, and another roster spot for 50 to 60 games out of the season to rotate guys like Abdelkater in.

Gosh dammit I forgot Chelios will probably hog some cap space too, and a spot on the roster.  Do you think a similar deal will be made with Chelly?  Leaving a roster spot for 50 or 60 games to allow Quincey and Ericsson to get reps is absolutely essential in my opinion.  Why would we throw away such potential when Chelly shouldn't even have been playing last year?  I think Brett Lebda should be a full time 3rd liner, with the extra spot reserved exclusively for the two youngsters, but how many of my dreams can possibly come true in one offseason?  If the aforementioned deals were made, I couldn't imagine another move Kenny could make to improve the club anymore.  I'm content either way.

    EDIT -

Nice.  According to nhl numbers, we should have about 1.7 under cap left to sign Mac and Quincey...maybe Chelios too.  I hope it's not a coincidence.  It's too bad that guys like Helm and Ericsson might not have a chance to play, because they have impressed me thus far.  I guess it's a good problem to have.

  2. Who wouldn't want to play for the Red Wings, even if it's only as a call up from the minors?  They're the best team in the league.  Go Wings!

  3. At 33, it's probably the best he was going to get for a player with his limited role.  At least he put winning above money. He could have gotten a little more with another team.

  4. Wake me up when Lilja gets traded.  I wanna hear that news.

  5. Sounds good for both of them....he gets to play on a stanely cup favorite and they get a scrappy 4th liner for no money
