Aaron Downey status?

So whats the deal with Downey? Is he gonna re-sign with the Red Wings? Has there been any talks or offers? They definately need an enforcer especially now with the signing of Hossa. I really like Darren McCarty but I think he's a little too old now to go with the rest of the heavyweights in the league. Plus he is also still a UFA. What I would love to see is a Downey - Helm - McCarty 4th line.

And one more thing. Everybody who thinks that Downey is just a punk or a goon really doesnt know much about hockey. He's really a great guy. You can tell by the interviews he does. Whoever agrees with me that Aaron Downey is actually a good hockey player and a great guy please star my question. Whoever doesn't, well you guys can go watch some baseball.

Haven't heard any word yet, But Holland is looking to sign both Downey and McCarty. I think Detroit needs to have a guy like Downey around, a Gritty enforcer. Every team has one. We'll see what happens. And i like Downey so i personally wouldn't want to see him leave. Downey-Helm-McCarty? Hmm Grind line part 2?

I agree with NIPS, that will be the regular forward roster. Injuries will happen and I would then expect them to use McCarty, Helm, and/or Haydar.

He is an underrated fighter in the league. And most inforcers are great guys, Georges Laraque and Brashear are both guys that look like they want to kill you, but both really ice people. However i dont kow the status of Downey

He was offered a 2way contract (Det and Grand Rapids) basically to play most of the time in Grand Rapids (call him up if someone starts cheap shotting the Wings players). Ken Holland said that Downey was thinking about the offer but was looking for a guarantee to play in the NHL right now, not in the AHL..... SO.. if he can find a one-way contract from another team, expect him to leave. If not, theres a good chance he will be in the Wings organization, but playing mainly in Grand Rapids.
