Aaron Finch fined half of his match fee for ball-tempering
The Victorian batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881, has been fined fifty percent of his match fee after he was found guilty of ball tampering during Australia’s domestic cricket tournament, the Sheffield Shield.
The 24-year-old right-handed batsman was fined on Monday at a Cricket Australia code of behavior commission. According to Cricket Australia’s statement, Finch conceded before the commissioner, Judge http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Smith-c53226, that he was most likely
responsible for the damage caused to the ball during Victoria’s victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 at the weekend.
The field umpires Bob Parry and Simon Fry had found some markings on the ball at the end of the Day 2 of the Sheffield Shield clash between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859 and South Australia at the Adelaide Oval. Since they could not identify the individual
responsible for the damage to the ball so the entire Victoria team was charged with ball-tempering. Besides charging the whole team for ball-tempering, the umpires also penalized the Victorians with five runs during South Australia’s innings.
The Bushrangers were reported for a level one offence under rule 1.7 of the Cricket Australia Code of Behaviour, which relates to "failure by a team to ensure the condition of a ball is not changed in breach of law 42.3."
The standard penalty for the breach of law 42.3 is a fine of ten percent of each player's match fee, as well as the penalty of five runs. However, on Monday, at a Code of Conduct hearing before Cricket Australia Code of Behaviour Commissioner, Aaron Finch
said he was "most likely responsible for the damage to the ball." So the charge against the entire tem was revoked and Finch was individually fined with half of his match fee.
The ball-tempering episode took the gloss off a comprehensive eight-wicket victory for Bushrangers, which they scripted in just three days. Chasing the target of 81 runs to win, the Victorians reached their target at the loss of only two wickets.
