Aaron Jaco: I do not want to waste the opportunity of taking on Kelly Pavlik - Boxing news
Aaron Jaco, the former number one contender for the NABA cruiserweight gold, in a short interview, said that he truly understands the fact that odds are severely against him adding that he still wants to take on Kelly Pavlik since it is a once in a lifetime
opportunity which he does not want to pass away just because he is not the favourite.
Jaco will take on Kelly Pavlik in a 10-round skirmish on March 31, 2012 in a ring which will be stretched at Illusions Theater situated in San Antonio, Texas, United States. The event is being promoted by Bob Arum of Top Rank promotions and the show will
be televised on US Azteca America.
Aaron, 35, is a surging pugilist who has been in a total 17 bouts. Also known as the ‘Jedi’, Jaco has emerged victorious in 15 bouts and has collected just five of his total wins by knockout.
Kelly, Aaron’s Saturday night opponent, is a former WBC and WBO middleweight champion who lost his titles in a bout to Sergio Gabriel Martinez. Infamous as ‘The Ghost’, Pavlik has been in a total 39 bouts and came out victorious in 37. He has collected 32
wins by knockout and recently nailed Alfonso Lopez, a pugilist who was on an undefeated long win streak and was more experienced than Aaron.
Aaron in his recent short interview, to some extent, answered each and every possible question popping in the minds of bout-analysts. Jaco while openly sharing the reason as to why he is chosen said, “I know why they picked me. They were looking for a guy
with a good record who didn’t have a lot of knockouts who they thought they could beat easily.”
When asked that if he knows he will be unable to handle Kelly Pavlik then why he does not want to quit, Aaron the Jedi said, “A lot of people think I’m crazy for taking this fight on short notice. I’ve been called a sacrificial lamb. I know I could lose,
but I’m not going to roll over and die just because it’s Kelly Pavlik.”
Aaron, who is currently following his father and trainer Dave Jaco’s one-line motto of ‘One punch can change the story’, said, “Fighting Kelly Pavlik is once in a lifetime. I’d hate to be forty and think to myself that I sure wish I would have tried.”
The Florida hailing Jedi has shown great heart by accepting the challenge and it might be possible that he at least gives the former champion Kelly some tough time and if Jaco comes up with a unique game plan and executes it perfectly he might generate the
best upset of the year.
