Aaron James Hawk signs new five-year contract with Green Bay Packers – NFL news
Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk has been signed to a five-year, $33.75 million deal which will fill his pockets with an additional $8 million signing bonus and will pay him $6.75 million per year.
He was originally supposed to make $10.5 million in 2011 but the Packers wanted him to come back at a reduced salary to increase space in their salary cap. So they released him recently and then quickly re-signed him to officially rework his contract.
Under his new contract, Hawk will make $1.15 million in 2011 as base salary and a roster bonus of $1.8 million. With an $8 million signing bonus, he will be making a total of $10.95 million in 2011. Since signing bonuses do not count in the team’s salary
cap, he will count for just $4.55 million.
In 2012, he will be making $4.4 million in basic salary with a $300,000 roster bonus and a workout bonus of $250,000, bringing his total for the year to $4.95 million.
Hawk’s base salary for 2013 will jump to $4.9 million and will again make a $300,000 in roster bonuses and $250,000 in workout bonuses, making his total salary for the year to $5.45 million.
In 2014, Hawk’s base salary will be $4.9 million again but his roster bonus will jump to $800,000. He will again make $250,000 in workout bonuses, bringing his total salary for the year to $5.95 million.
For the 2015 season, Hawk’s base salary will become $5.4 million while his roster and workout bonuses will stay the same, giving him a total of $6.45 million for the year.
Hawk has had his best season in 2010 since his rookie season. In 2010, he made 111 combined tackles, 72 of which were solo, and also had half of a sack. He also deflected 10 passes and had three interceptions which he returned for a total of 31 yards.
His rookie season was arguably better. After winning the Lombardi Award and Jack Lambert Trophy at Ohio State University, he was picked fifth overall in the 2006 National Football League Draft. He had an incredible rookie season with the Packers, recording
119 total tackles, 82 of which were solo, and also had 3.5 sacks. He also deflected six passes and had two interceptions which he returned for a total of 31 yards. He also forced one fumble.
However, looking at the Packers as a whole, the team was much better in 2010. After all, they just won Super Bowl XLV as underdogs to the American Football Conference Champions Pittsburgh Steelers. In the Super Bowl, Hawk recorded five tackles, two of which
were solo and deflected one pass.
