Aaron Laffey inks minor league agreement with New York Mets-MLB Update
Left handed pitcher, Aaron Laffey, has agreed to a minor league contract with the New York Mets. As for his role, he can be used as starter as well as reliever during the games.
The Mets currently have deep holes in their rotation, which means they are vulnerable to losing a great number of games, owing to subpar shows from the pitchers.
With their Cy Young winner, R.A Dickey, of the last season gone, they seriously need someone to bridge the prevailing deficit.
While they cannot afford visiting the free agent market, those that have been dumped by other organisations, are only options to pursue before them.
For example, Laffey played for the Toronto Blue Jays during the 2012 season. As he disappointed them hugely, he was sent to the minor league by them.
Laffey has signed with the Mets now. He is hoping that he improves greatly and finds a place on their major league roster down the line.
The magnitude of problems with the rotation of the Mets is so high that they are afraid how they will have an enough number of hurlers to start the 162 games of their upcoming season.
The injury prone nature of the ace, Johan Santana will aggravate their concerns.
Santana could not start games regularly in the previous season. His inability to recover from injuries made it difficult for him to throw impeccable innings and lead the team to wins.
While he is expected to stay healthy all through the next season, his ageing body can never let the officials feel confident about him.
Only pitcher that the Mets can be hopeful about with regard to throwing throughout the season is Jon Niese.
He is young and enthusiastic to show energy at the mound, which makes him an ideal candidate to assign responsibilities for starting the games on a regular basis.
As for Laffey, the Mets will be apprehensive allowing him the opportunities. A lot depends on how he performs in the minor league circuit of the team.
Regardless of his chances to throw at the major league level, Laffey will be looking to rebound from the last season miseries and impress officials of the Mets.
