Aaron Simpson decides to move down to welterweight division from middleweight - UFC news
Aaron Simpson, the 37-year-old Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter, has decided to drop from middleweight to welterweight division, after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of Ronny Markes in his three-round bout on UFC on Fuel TV 1. Another
reason behind his decision is the fact that he is unable to cross the 200-pound weight.
Ronny and Aaron collided on February 15, 2012 in Omaha Civic Auditorium situated in Nebraska. The pay-per-view was headlined by the brawl between Jake Ellenberger and Diego Sanchez. Both men competed in the middleweight division and Aaron despite of throwing
all he had in the brawl, lost to the surging young Brazilian Markes.
Simpson, infamous as the A-Train, while giving an interview to mmajunkie.com shared his experience against Ronny. Aaron was pretty heartfelt at the fact that he has strived very hard to gain weight and to reach or cross the 200lb weight but is unable to
do so.
Aaron said, “I've been thinking about it over the last year and a half. Everybody I fight is cutting from 220 (pounds).”
While recalling his brawl against Markes, Aaron said that I felt completely overwhelmed by his body mass. I tried my level best to move him off me by punching in his face and was even able to throw him down the octagon mat but still Ronny came out as a victor
and overshadowed me by his massive body.
Aaron while sharing a particular bout moment said, “There were times I couldn't budge. [Markes] had his shoulder buried in my chest, and I couldn't move him. And I can defend a lot of people's takedowns and everything, and it was just one of those deals
where that really dwarfed me.”
Aaron revealed that he will first undergo a medical examination and will ask his doctor to advise him whether it is possible for him to torn his muscles and reduce his body weight and drop it to 70 pounds or not. Aaron, is somewhat known as the knockout
specialist since he tries to end the game in just the beginning round by attacking his opponent viciously.
Simpson has collected six of his 11 wins by KO and has collected three losses recent being against Ronny Markes in a split decision. Aaron when asked as to how he feels about his recent opponent said that people are criticising him for using his body mass
but I do not blame him since it is my mistake that I did not do enough to knock the huge man out in just the initial stages of the bout.
