Aaron Simpson returns beats debutant Kenny Robertson unanimously – UFC News
Aaron Simpson, the American mixed martial artist, made a successful comeback to the win track by grabbing a close unanimous decision win over UFC debutant Kenny Robertson, in a three-round bout held on UFC on Fuel TV 4.
The duo met on the fight card headlined by the non-title explosive bout between Chris Weidman and Mark Munoz. The showdown was televised live on Fuel TV. In addition, the card had James Te-Huna take on Joey Beltran in a non-title light heavyweight bout,
co-headlining the fight card.
The event took place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, United States. Aaron, who was making a debut at the welterweight division after cutting weight, experienced a bit tough time while controlling the pace of the bout.
Kenny mostly dominated the fight. He kept on moving forward, attempting a takedown in nearly every round. Aaron started things off in the first round with an upper cut but Robertson moved in immediately by throwing knees and evaded the attack.
Later on, in the final seconds of the first round, Simpson moved in swiftly to grab the 28-year-old to undergo a takedown. The effort went in vain, as the young debutant evaded it successfully and retaliated with a big left hand.
In the second round, Kenny tried his level best to make Aaron submit by grabbing him several times in different submission maneuvers but the ‘A-Train’ overwhelmed Kenny by his strength and broke all holds easily.
During the third round, the duo got sluggish. Almost close to the end of the bout, Kenny attempted a takedown, which backfired, and the crowd saw Simpson on top of Robertson battering him with sheer force and power.
At the end of the three-round battle, Aaron grabbed a unanimous win by collecting 30-27, 29-28 and 29-28 points. After the bout, Simpson was a bit stressed and complained about his under par performance.
Simpson stated, “I've got to get used to these guys' speed. I've got to prepare better. I've got to finish guys here at this weight.” While sharing his ambitions of colliding and taking down Jon Fitch, the 37-year-old stated, “I want to perform better. I
think I performed all right, but I'm not going to beat a guy like Jon Fitch fighting like that. But I will beat a guy like Jon Fitch. I just have to go out there and be a little more exciting. I have to go out there and try to finish.”
