My wife and I are moving to Fayetteville, NC and are expecting our first child in mid-September. She wants to go back to work soon and I don't oppose (mainly because I make enough for us to live but not really play). Does anyone know the average weekly cost of day care for an infant? Also, will the cost decrease as the child gets older? Thanks for any help you can provide!

  1. Canada--$900 per month, and if there is a waiting list, I suggest you get your infant on it now!

  2. I live in Clinton which is about 45 minutes away from Fayetteville, and my daughter's child care is $108 per week. Its a smaller town so I would say it might be a little more expensive but probably not much.  Once they are a year old it goes down about 5-10 dollars a week, and the same each birthday.

  3. I live in Kentucky and I run and in home child care I charge $135 for an infant and when they turn one it goes down $110.00. I have seen people who charge a $150.00 for an infant.

  4. Well, I'm in NJ and I've also lived in PA and DE and the cost up here averages about $150/wk. For a new infant, it may be more depending on the daycare. I'd say for the Northeast you'd be looking to spend about $200/wk for full-time care. (Most of my own paycheck goes towards daycare fees.) Check w/ the local family and human svcs. dept. and see if there's any programs that help w/ the cost of tuition. In DE, it's called Purchase of Care. In south Jersey, we have the Abbott program and that's for residents of a certain city/town and they can send their kids to daycare for free. (Unfortunately, I live in the next town over, so I have to pay.) Some daycares also offer a sliding scale based on your income, so that's another option. The daycare I currently use is rather cheap at $100/wk. Good luck!

  5. Not in NC but these are the rates at Kindercare in Wisconsin, just to give you an idea of what the range could be.

    Up to age 2- $271/wk

    2 years- $241/wk

    3-5 years- $204/wk

  6. It seems to be (where I live in NC) around $150/week.  Check the state's website for info on childcare centers and then call the ones you think look good for prices.  Good luck!
