Abbey Harkin pockets Girls 200m IM gold: Day two – Australian Age Championships, Brisbane
Abbey Harkin of Novocastrian pocketed gold medal of the Girl’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) in the age group of 12-13 Year Olds on day two of the 2012 Australian Age Championships on Tuesday, April 10 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
Harkin stayed considerably faster from her following swimmers and faced no trouble in occupying gold medal of the discipline. With her immaculate efforts in the playoff of four-lap event, she cemented her place on the victory stand for gold medal.
Harkin clocked a time of 2 minutes and 19.02 seconds for the crown of the event. Her tremendous effort remained almost 2.50 seconds faster from Chelsea Gubecka, who proved her mettle for second position by posting a time of 2 minutes and 21.53 seconds.
Gubecka remained almost 1.50 seconds faster from her subsequent competitor, Ella Bond of Marion, who ended her swim in third best place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 22.94 seconds.
Her effort was trailed by Shayna Jack of Chandler, who concluded her pace in fourth best position by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 23.67 seconds.
Following that, the audience experienced nerve-wrecking form of Denman’s Oliver Moody in the Boys 12-13 Year Olds 200m IM. Moody devastated hopes of his supporters by ending his race in a fastest time of 2 minutes and 14.51 seconds.
Moody was chased by Matthew Wilson of Springwood, who seized second position of the event by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 17.39 seconds.
Wilson was followed by Alan Gibson of Academy, who proved his eligibility for bronze medal of the discipline by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.55 seconds.
Gibson was chased by Brody McGowan of Breakers, who managed to finish fourth in the event and posted a time of 2 minutes and 20.78 seconds while Kit Dejonge of Launceston ended fifth in the event with an effort of 2 minutes and 20.79 seconds.
Furthermore, the session completed after the conclusion of all planned events while the winners were awarded medals at the prize ceremony of the championship.
