Abbie Johnston grabs Women’s 200m breaststroke gold – 2013 NZ Open Championships
Abbie Johnston of AquaGym grabbed gold medal of the Women’s 200m breaststroke on last day of the 2013 NZ Open Championships in Westwave Aquatic Centre, Auckland, on Thursday, March 21.
The 16-year-old Johnston demonstrated her impeccable pace in the distant breaststroke discipline and cruised her way towards the finishing end for first position. With her astonishing pace, Johnston remained prominently ahead of her following swimmer and
emerged on the wall for gold medal.
She showed no mercy to her opponents and tapped the wall for gold medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 33.13 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by Beckie Dooley of Jasi, who stayed almost three seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by hitting the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 36.16 seconds.
The second fastest swimmer was followed by Natasha Lloyd of North Canterbury Swim Club, who was only 0.21 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end by producing a time of 2 minutes and 36.37 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the race was obtained by Katie Kenneally of Neptune Swimming Club, and Emily McGill of Capital Swim Club, who tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing end. Both swimmers demonstrated their extraordinary efforts in the
final lap of the race but failed to escape each other over the finishing end and tapped she wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 37.80 seconds.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Dayna Kiekebosch of Fairfield Swimming Club, who was 0.71 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and emerged on the finishing end by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 38.51 seconds.
Seventh finest spot of the race was obtained by Jane Ip of West Auckland Aquatics, who was one and a half body length behind and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 39.98 seconds.
Last spot of the race was obtained by Kendall Reidy of Central Hawkes Bay, who concluded her race in eighth place by producing a time of 2 minutes and 41.07 seconds.
Furthermore, the winners received medals and accolades for their notable effort at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
