Abbotsford Heat Goalie Barry Brust close to making AHL Shutout Record -AHL Update
Johnny Bower was the last man the American Hockey League (AHL) saw making a shutout record of 250 minutes, but that was back in 1957. With over 50 years gone by, no one came even close to beating or even tying that, but the Abbotsford Heat just might be
able to get their names in the history books.
Barry Brust, goalie for the Abbotsford Heat, is an inch away from tying the record and could put his name above Johnny Bower as he currently has a shutout streak of 231 minutes and 41 second. He needs just 18 minutes and 11 seconds more to make it a done
deal with the next chance to do so against the Toronto Marlies, an affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, this coming Sunday.
Excitement is high for both sides as the Heat defenseman will be giving it their all to help goalie Barry Brust put his name in the history books for good, but the Marlies are planning on getting a quick one in to throw all his hard work away in an instant.
Asking Brust how hard he has worked, one would be expecting a energetic answer from the goalie, but in return, it is if rather things have just fallen in place for the goaltender up until now.
"To be quite honest, I haven't had that much work," Brust said, talking to NHL.com. "There haven't been that many chances against us. Our team has been doing a great job of shutting the opposition down, clearing traffic, clearing rebounds, letting me see
pucks. If the goalie makes the first save in this league, he's going to be pretty successful. That's what's happened so far.”
Brust is a 73rd overall draft pick of the Minnesota Wild back in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft and has played just 11 games in the major league back in 2006-2007 with the Los Angeles Kings. Maybe this record could be one that would elevate his position
in the world of hockey and may get him his big break in the major league next time around.
It will definitely be interesting to see whether Barry Brust is able to continue working his magic or not in their next matchup.
