Abbottabad’s DCO praises PHF for the hockey academies set within the region: Hockey News
On Saturday, June 4, Syed Zahir-ul-Islam, who is the District Coordinator (DCO) of Abbottabad, Peshawar, praised Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) for the various hockey academies that are established under their hold since 2008.
Zahir believes that these establishments will allow hockey to earn back its lost prestige. These comments were delivered by the DCO in his address to the short-listed national’s players of the entire Hazara region, who were present at the hockey distribution
ceremony, being held at the Abbottabad Hockey Complex on June 4.
In addition to the players, the PHF Academy’s Head Coach, Riasat Khan, his deputy, Junaid Khan Jadoon, District Sports Officer (DSO) Jamshed Baloch and the local audience was also present at the sports ceremony.
Apart from the efforts by the PHF, Zahir also lauded the contribution made by the government towards the sports in the country because of which huge expenditures like a PKR 4 million turf being laid in the hockey stadium, in addition to maintenance and renovation
expenses of worth PKR 3.3 million were made. Moreover, about PKR 1.8 million were spent on the water-sprinkling-unit and the tube-well for the stadium.
Zahir also suggested the DSO to avoid the use of the stadium for any sport apart from hockey, so as to keep the stadium isolated for the specific sport. Moreover, there must be a proper maintenance of the stadium with consistent cleanliness and care-taking
of the turf from dust. The DCO announced about the registration of clubs with the stadium’s management and the fee collected from it, will be spent on the stadium’s repairs.
According to him, the rooms within the hockey stadium that are currently occupied by the boxing clubs need to be evacuated. Moreover, the issue of poor functioning of the tube-well, recently installed, also needs to be addressed by the Sports Officer.
DCO expressed his gratitude to the PHF for setting up academies across Pakistan including the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
This step will be the initiator for pooling up the talent disguised at various regions and without this effort hockey cannot be promoted at the national or international level.
The development of the sport is only possible when a proper developmental plan is created for tracing out the unidentified young talent and setting up training centres for their bright future.
