Abdominal Pains Emergency Room?

I've been having menstrual like cramps ( but not time for period) in my lower abdomen and it gets particularly intense (pain level 8) from time to time when I stand after sitting for a while and and when walking up stairs. Throughout the day it averages a 4 at night 8. Also, my right side has been hurting continuously as well and feels swollen. I've called my primary physician and he sent medication for irritable bowel syndrome because I told him the symptoms above, but it hasn't helped. About a month ago I had a CT scan and ultrasound because he thought it was my appendix but it came out clear. The Gyno didn't seem to think it was urgent, but I have been in pain. I have no idea what it could be and I'm also out of state until next Wednesday. I have a gyno appointment scheduled for the day after I get back. Should I make an ER trip or wait it out till I get back home? Lastly does anybody have a wild guess as to what it could be?

  1. Based on what you are describing you could be dealing with something like endometriosis (an example only).  I would say that because the pain is quite intense especially at night I would recommend going to the ER where you are and have them evaluate the situation further.

After your visit to the ER please request a copy of the report of the doctor that sees you and give it to your gyn's office when you go back home.
