Pakistani left-arm spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, where he was playing for English County club Somerset last month.
Reports circulated by the Pakistani media reveal that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) contacted the Pakistan Cricket Board in order to inform them that Rehman had failed the drugs test. The result makes Rehman Pakistan’s 3rd player,
and the 17th player worldwide, to fail a dope Test. Previously, Pakistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Asif-c1993 have also tested positive for drugs.
Despite being a regular in Pakistan’s Test and ODI squads, the 32-year-old left-arm spinner was not included in the national squad for the ongoing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in
the UAE prior to the World T20, during which he claimed 3 wickets.
Otherwise, Rehman has recently been affiliated with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 on September 11, during which he claimed 9 for 65 and 5
for 36), and the Clydesdale Bank 40 2012 (including an impressive 6/16 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 on August 12).
The left-armer made his debut for the national side in December 2006, during an ODI against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in Karachi. Since then he has
gone to cement his place in the national squad, taking 81 wickets from 17 Tests, and 21 wickets from 25 ODIs, in addition to serving as an effective foil for spin-wizard http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859.
While his promising performances suggest that his days of playing for Pakistan are far from over, a two-year ban could prove potentially career-threatening for the left-armer, who is already 32 years of age. The International Cricket Council’s rules dictate
that any bans imposed by the ECB are immediately applicable to all other boards, which means the PCB will have no choice but to accept the decision.
