Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open on LET to be staged in UK in May
The Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open presented by EventScotland is now scheduled to be back at the sprawling Archerfield Links in East Lothian, in May and is likely to attract top-ranked Ladies golfers on the Ladies European Tour.
The event is now poised at the start of the LET season and is also the first UK event on the tour schedule with a purse of €250,000.
Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open has a unique playing format which includes the top-ranked players paired with some of the qualifying amateurs, alongside a few celebrities which are regularly invited by the official sponsor to increase the
spectators turn out.
Defending champion of the last year’s title and currently Aberdeen Asset Management ambassador, Catriona Matthew will also be part of the field, in a bid to retain the title.
She said, “I am particularly looking forward to defending my Aberdeen Ladies Scottish Open title. Last year’s event was one of the highlights of my year as it is fantastic to be able to play in front of a home crowd at my home course, Archerfield.”
The title’s sponsor is now heading into the fourth consecutive sponsorship of the event and Martin Gilbert, Chief Executive of Aberdeen Asset Management said that the company and the management have been proud to support Scottish golf.
Paul Bush, Chief Operating Officer at EventScotland and who was bestowed with Order of the British Empire (OBE) said,
“Events like the Ladies Scottish Open are hugely important as we build towards the 2014 Ryder Cup; contributing to the excitement by showcasing some of the best golfers on the Ladies European Tour, including Scotland's own Catriona Matthew.”
Alexandra Armas, Executive Director of the Ladies European Tour also spoke on the occasion and said that the timing of the event is ideal from player’s perspective as they will have a stronger start of the season playing against grizzled veterans of the
tour. She added that the event does not clash with any other schedules that the players might have to play in other parts of the world.
Like many of the tours around the world, Ladies European Tour had been battling economic vows for quite some time and has already lost a few events owing to the economic crunch in different European countries.
Sponsors, which are predominantly world renowned banks and financial institutions, have been struggling themselves in attempts to recover the recession, have pulled out from titles sponsors not only on LET but also on the men’s European Tour events.
Aberdeen Asset Management’s commitment to continue with the official sponsorship of the event is a breath of fresh air for the LET. The event is scheduled from Thursday, May 3rd to Saturday 5th.
