Question:

Aberdeen - Oil capital of the UK - to be the Power capital of the UK?

The MP for Aberdeen says that they are the oil capital of the UK, but oil will be finished in 13 years, so they should become the power capital instead.

Why should Aberdeen have any particular claim to this title? -- surely it is open for any area of the UK to try to aim for?

  1. Well, they're the oil capital because most oil and gas exploration companies have their UK or worldwide headquarters there.

Aberdeen University is also currently involved in the research into wave power generation, something which, if it comes to working fruition, will enable Scotland to be entirely energy independent and sell on surplus.

And oil won't be finished in thirteen years... New areas are being opened and even the gloomiest predictions give thirty years.

Bob C... still talking rubbish, I see. Largest proportion of taxpayers money in the UK gets spent in London and the South East. Are you going to demand independence for that area on the grounds of expense too?

  2. Does Aberdeen have a plan to become the power capital of the UK?

If so it will probably involve a nuclear power station or two.  But if the good people of Aberdeen want that responsibility then they're welcome to the title.

  3. I agree!Could it be some one talking up Independence for Scotland! With a bit of luck Scotland will be completely Independent! by the year 2021!So will England and Wales Tax burden lessen!I hope so!

  4. Shouldn't be left in the hands of Aberdonians as they'll keep it all for themselves.

  5. I don't seem how as i assume he means that it will become a centre for power generation - if he does mean this then its far to remote for the construction of an energy infrastructure.
