Aberdeen hope to sign defender
Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen are hoping to conclude a loan deal for Udinese defender Nikola Vujadinovic, but the player’s temporary move depends on the outcome of a work permit application.
The 24-year-old had been on trial last week and impressed enough for manager Mark McGhee to make a move for him. Aberdeen managed to complete all the necessary paperwork before the transfer window slammed shut at 1800 BST on Tuesday, but face an anxious wait for news from British authorities over the work permit.
Should the Serbian-born Vujadinovic join the Dons, he will become McGhee’s eighth signing of the summer. He will follow the arrivals of goalkeeper Mark Howard from St Mirren; defender Rory McArdle from Rochdale; midfielders Yoann Folly (Plymouth Argyle) and new club captain Paul Hartley (Bristol City); and strikers Josh Magennis (Cardiff City), Scott Vernon (Colchester United) and Andrius Velicka, who is on loan from Rangers.
Versatile player
The versatile Vujadinovic, who operates primarily at left-back but can also play in central defence, started his career at Red Star Belgrade before enjoying spells at Rad Beograd, Zeta and Radnicki Pirot.
He joined Bulgarian Premier League outfit CSKA Sofia on a free transfer in 2007 and signed a three-year deal with the club. Vujadinovic made 24 appearances for the side and scored one goal.
In August 2008, Italian side Udinese revealed that they had signed him for a fee of one million euros and he agreed a five-year deal with the Serie A club.
In September 2009, Vujadinovic was farmed out on loan to Romanian Liga I outfit Unirea Alba Iulia. However, he could not help the club retain their status in the top flight and Unirea were relegated after spending just one season in the Romanian top tier.
Vujadinovic has also made six appearances at Under-21 level for Montnegro.
