Aberdeen's Sone Aluko out for 12 weeks
Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen have suffered a major blow after it was revealed that attacker Sone Aluko will be out of action for up to three months.
The forward has been sidelined after a long-standing Achilles complaint was examined by a medical specialist in London. The 21- year-old will have his leg in a plaster cast for two weeks to remedy the
problem before he begins the working towards a full recovery.
A statement on Aberdeen’s official website says that: “The initial prognosis is that Sone could face up to 12 weeks on the sidelines however this is a worst-case scenario and it is hoped that he will make
a full recovery sooner rather than later.”
The Nigeria international had helped Aberdeen get off to a flying start to the new campaign as he featured in the two opening wins over Hamilton and St Johnstone, but missed the 3-0 League Cup victory
over Alloa Athletic as well as a 1-0 loss at home to Kilmarnock and a 3-1 defeat away to Dundee United in the league.
Injury-prone attacker
Aluko has endured several bouts of injury woe since he joined the Dons in 2008 from Birmingham City. He missed many of the club’s matches in the first half of the 2009-10 season due to various knocks as
well as commitments with Nigeria.
The Achilles complaint first occurred when he was training with the Nigeria Under-20 side ahead of their World Cup campaign last year. He then had stomach surgery this January and struggled to regain full
fitness after being out for around seven weeks.
Aluko has made 55 appearances for the club and has scored five goals. However, it is his pace in particular that Aberdeen will miss over the next several weeks as they push for a finish in the league that
will see them qualify for European competitoin next season.
