Men’s Doubles partners Abhishek Ahlawat and Bhaskar Chakraborty forged a fruitful chemistry in their opening match of qualifying round and sealed first victory in Shaheed Dr. K.L. Garg - Syed Modi International India GPG on December 18, 2012.
They outshined the compatriot duo Aman Singh Bishen-Ravinder Singh in a short-lived but hard fought tussle which ended with decisive result of 21-19 and 21-15.
The partnership of Abhishek and Bhaskar prevailed in both segments of this showdown and setup its next clash with another Indian pair Venkatesh B-Santosh Ravuri.
They will utilise all of their valuable experience to gain access to main round of this Grand Prix Gold event.
Their splendid win in the opening match will be motivational force for them as they kick-started their campaign in commendable manner.
Both Men’s Doubles experts were bit sluggish in the first set of that match but still they managed to revive their chemistry when it was needed the most.
Initially, Abhishek and Bhaskar lacked coordination and dropped vital points in a row. Their bad patch continued until mid-game break and the opposing team relished full benefits of their below par performance.
The Indian pair of Aman and Ravinder played impeccable badminton and enjoyed an upper hand until 10-6 total.
However, they could not carry this momentum in latter part of the game and allowed their competitors to bounce back into contest.
Abhishek and Bhaskar showed great finishing skills and bagged 15 out of ending 23 points to finish this crucial set with a favourable margin of 21-19.
In the following set, they were again at the lower end in preliminary stage and this passive approach resulted in 3-7 score. They did not lose heart and counterbalanced the situation with a strong backlash.
At first, they caught their rivals at 8-8 and then established a decent lead before the announcement of one-minute break.
Abhishek and Bhaskar did not lose their pace in latter part of the game and cruised to victory in a commendable manner.
They maintained a significant difference on the points table and raised hands as victors after putting 21-15 margin on board.
