Barcelona’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carles-Puyol-c8331 has called out to his side’s manager Tito Vilanova to have strength and has exclaimed that he should take Eric Abidal’s example and work on his recovery.
According to the veteran defender, health problems and fitness issues are a part of the game and hence they can be handled with a little resolve.
Vilanova was recently diagnosed with a cancer relapse. Understandably, the news caused quite a stir at the Catalan capital. As matters aggravated, the Catalan mentor even stated that he may be forced to part ways with La Blaugrana if his health problems
persist.
However, the manager endured a successful surgery this week and his reported to return to action soon. Although he will have to undergo chemotherapy for 6 weeks and that may mean that he will not be able to attend matches until January.
Puyol discussed how the team took the news and asserted that the club are completely ready to offer support to their boss.
"It was a real blow, a real punch in the face. But we have to get ourselves up and keep on fighting. It's what this club has always done and now we will do it again," the Barca captain said at a press conference.
"The dressing room is more upbeat now. We chatted with Tito yesterday and that gave us encouragement. The message we received was that everything has gone well. Abidal is an example to Vilanova and to all of us. He shows that if you fight you can overcome
challenges and compete at the highest level.”
"This is a very responsible dressing room. We have to go on as usual, training to the maximum. We'll be waiting for him to return. The best way to help him is for the team to continue and win our next few games."
This is Vilanova’s first season as the head coach of the Catalan giants. He was previously the assistant coach of the Nou Camp outfit under the management of Pep Guardiola.
