Breaking News: Abidal reveals he played through pain for the French national side
Barcelona defender Eric Abidal has revealed that he played through pain as he represented the French national team against Bosnia on Tuesday.
Eric Abidal picked up a hamstring injury while representing his club side, Barcelona, against Sporting Gijon in La Liga. The Spanish Champions won the fixture 0-1 away from home and managed to take the top spot in the Spanish La Liga points table.
Despite his injury, the French national team decided to play Eric Abidal during the Euro 2012 qualifiers. The French full back was needed by the French team as the game against Bosnia looked to be different for the European giants; therefore, Abidal had
to be fielded by the French coach.
Barcelona warned the French national side not to play Eric Abidal during his injury but since the team needed him, he had to be fielded. Abidal did not reveal the pain he was going through before or during the game but later agreed to the fact that he wasn’t
perfectly fit against Bosnia.
Abidal accepted the fact that he played through the pain but also agreed that everything turned out to be alright at the end. He also admitted that his club coach Josep Guardiola is not going to be happy after knowing that he had to play through an injury.
While speaking to Marca , Eric Abidal said:
"I'd rather say how I feel physically right now. Guardiola will not be happy if he hears how I felt."
Barcelona are currently going through a lot of injury crises and Eric Abidal is a crucial part of the Catalan system. The Frenchman managed to become an integral part of the Spanish team last season. However, his season was disrupted by a tumour in his liver,
which was later operated by the club doctors.
