My son is on Abilify, started taking it last night and took his second pill this morning. He takes 7.5 mg twice a day. Anyways I would like to know how others reacted on it especially children. What side-effects did you notice? Did you have to stop the meds? Was there a personality change? Any information you have would be great.

  1. may i ask what his diagnosis is?

  2. My 11 year old is on abilify (she had severe mood swings and was hurting herself) - it has been a life saver - the only negative side effect is that it makes her tired - which is actually a good thing, she takes it right before bed and sleeps great. She takes the abilify along with Lamictal and her moods are stable - she is living a normal childhood.

  3. My friend's son takes Abilify.   It stabilizes his moods.    He still has the same personality.    He has been on it for a couple of years.    She never mentioned anything about side effects and she seems to believe he's doing better.

ETA:   Are you getting this medication through a child psychiatrist?    Some psychiatric medications work wonders for some but are awful with others.     I know there are kids who need medication just to have a normal childhood but I would want somebody really experienced with these medications to do the prescribing of these drugs.
