Hi there,

I havent ridden my pony in over a month because h pulled a muscle. I have started to walk and trot on him and he is pretty much better.

Do you think asing him to go to a show in 4 days would be too much we would just be doing the Hacks and begginer walk trit and posibbly canter?

Do you think that would be too much for him? Asking him to do all that in just getting into work in 4 days?

We could also just do walk trot.

What do you think?

also, we never had the vet out, we just knew it was a pulle dmuscle and that ind of stuff sp we just let him have time off, also he has been staying in shape because he has a 6 acre field with 5 horses and its hilly

  1. I'm sure he will be fine. Just don't ask him to do anything too strenuous on him. Also, get him some orthopedic boots.

  2. I think he'd be fine. After riding him, just feel the muscle...is it hot to the touch? does it feel swollen? If it feels ok, go for the show! Horses are pretty good at letting us know if they are hurting. He's probably ready to get back up to speed! :o)

  3. You could just do the walk and trot section - basically don't ask him to do more than what you're doing at home - but you need to be careful when travelling him to make sure that doesn't agrivate the muscle. You should also be cold hoseing it after work if possible.

  4. i think asking him 2 canter mite b 2 much u should do the walk trot tho

  5. i wouldnt you dont want to injure him again

  6. I would probibly have the vet out to check him, to make sure hes ok. If the vet thinks that he will be fine then it should be ok to show him, just odnt push him to much, you dont want him to pull his muscle again!

  7. well, you're saying he's pretty much fine.. does that mean he's 100% and hasnt taken a lame/weird step at all since you started back riding him and you havent seen any problems wtih him out in the pasture in the past week or so?

or pretty much fine meaning he's generally good but he's taken some gimpy/lame steps since you've started back riding him, and maybe looks a little off every so often in the field...

a horse show is really just a place for the place for the human to get ribbons.. it usually means nothing to the horse, (maybe more stress?)....is it worth possibly reinjuring your horse and having to take MORE time off? or possibly having a mild injury become a big problem?..

if he's 100% like i described in the first paragraph then i'd say go for it, but go take it class by class and dont be set on doing every class....he may get tired by the end of the day since he hasnt really done much work...

if he's still a bit off, even the slightest bit, then honestly i'd just skip it...dont risk your horse for some colored pieces of cloth... there will be other shows and your horse is more important than colored pieces of cloth (or should be!!!)

    good luck

  8. he should be fine just do one class though and just walk trot... Its just like if a human pulled a muscle, they wouldnt want to be worked alot after they got better. So take it easy and have a vet come out if it gets worse

  9. he sounds like a great horse and if you don't want to risk hurting him you shouldn't do the show

have a pretend show and see if he can handle it be fore
